A melting moment

23 February 2010

Despite being one of the hottest days in a little while, today I made these amazing cupcakes. They are coconut & raspberry inside with cheesecake frosting, toasted coconut and fresh strawberries on the outside (can you believe no one in newtown sells raspberries anymore?).

As you can see, they did turn a little melty when I was trying to pipe the raspberry jam-infused frosting onto them, but they taste like heaven and go pretty solid in the fridge, so it’s all good!

cupcakes3I got the recipe for these from this great book I got on the weekend (with a little alteration on my behalf). I was pretty excited to finally go to The Essential Ingredient in Roselle (it’s just moved from Crows Nest, incase, like us, you turn up to an vacant shop front) and this book was something I couldn’t resist. The recipes are super easy and the photos are so cute.

vanillaI also picked up a jar of this amazing vanilla paste, which is so good in frosting and cheesecakes (two of my favourite things). And it’s also well worth the money as a little goes a long way, they say a teaspoon in equal to an entire vanilla pod! Mmm. Kx

Favourite Fabrics Project

9 February 2010

Today I was going to write a post about my favourite vintage floral fabrics but after I photographed them I decided they were too pretty to just pack away again.

So I made a bag!

I’m a bit of a “save it incase” kinda girl, so it was pretty hard to cut into my favourites. I mean what if one day I wanted to make a dress and happened to be 10cm short because I’d hacked into them for a bag? But then I thought, such is life, and this way I get to admire them everyday. Kx

10 things I hate about you, Money.

28 January 2010

Here are ten things I’m dreaming of owning if my funds permitted me to do so.

deery

Obviously, a baby deer is out of the question, but this print, is not.

isabella

And neither is this one. Bunnies and swans, for goodness sake, what more could a girl ask for.

paws

lamby

I’ve blogged about the amazing Mon Petit Fantome before, and these two prints in his etsy store make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

deery2

This vintage deer. Like a velveteen rabbit only cuter.

bewitched

This original Caitlin Shearer painting. Love it.

greenrabbit

This funny little felted rabbit.

cakeland

This print is by Justin Richel and makes me want to bake.

bunnytin

As does this bunny tin!

pinwheels

And these little paper pinwheels you can buy from this super cool baking supply etsy store.

birdbelt

And finally this Marc Jacobs Birdy belt. Oh how I love you.

Ok, technically I think that’s eleven, but I couldn’t decide :) Kx

Cookie Monster

14 January 2010

plenty2 plenty

I did some more baking while I was on holidays after visiting a store called Plenty in Bondi Junction. This store has the most amazing baking section with coloured sprinkles and icing galore! I was quite scared by how much money I could have spent, but settled on some black icing colouring and sprinkles to match. The store is on level 5 near Wheel and Barrow incase you are searching for it! Here is some photos of the cookies I baked using my ikea cookie cutters and new icing colours.

iced cookies

The main reason I baked these was because someone lovely bought me this fantastic cookie and cupcake decorating set by Swiss brand Kuhn Rikon and I was dying to try it out. It worked really well (so much better than a piping bag!) and was super fun to use. I think my favourite cookies are the orange fox and the black Juno bunnies which I sprinkled with these, making them glittery and almost furry looking.

Lately there has been a lot of lovely people in my life having birthdays and being the festive season too, there is no need for an excuse to bake anyway. But here are some of my latest attempts for you to see. The cookies are on these great ceramic cat & bunny plates, Lynds gave me the bunny one from when she op-shopped in Melbourne and I stole the cat from mum. They are great! Also see the great pink plastic heart cut out doily I got at Ikea last time I was there. Kx

On Saturday we went down to Kinokuniya for their Bake Fair. My super talented friends Anney and Mechelle had a stall and had made some amazing looking and tasting treats. Amongst the best were pistachio and rosewater cupcakes, hand sewn aprons, donut toys and our personal favourites, hand drawn crockery. We couldn’t resist the red and white teacups, which are all designed and drawn by Mechelle on vintage crockery. Mine has taken pride of place on my shelf, because its way too pretty to use. Kx

Lovely things by Pirdy at Rose St Markets

30 June 2009

pirdy

While at the Rose St Designers Markets I found the cutest stall by Melbourne designer Pirdy who stocks a selected range at made590 in Newtown. She makes all things birdy and cute out of resin, ceramics and other lovely bits and pieces. I couldn’t resist her baby orange owls for my shadowbox! Juliet is super friendly and nice, so if you like what you see here, check her out on etsy. K x

Sexy Librarian might sound like every boys fantasy, but actually it is the name of my lovely and talented friend Anney’s exhibition which was held at Kinokuniya last thursday night. There was cute paintings and cupcakes all around. I loved the painting of the iced vovos best!

Sniffle Co Brooches

12 May 2009

bighulaWe just love this hula girl brooch Sniffle Co has made for the Grates latest tour. This photo also makes me want to eat that crazy bright coloured cereal. We recently became the proud owners of a couple of pinboy brooches and were pleasantly surprised by the cuteness of the packaging and amount of effort that went into them. Just lovely.

I just had to share these amazing photos of my talented friends Anney and Mechelle. Kinokunya book store had a free comic book day and these talented ladies made costumes and dressed up for the event! I just LOVE the big hairy hand Anney made for Mechelle’s king kong themed outfit. And Anney’s Kryptonite costume is fantastic. I love people who go to this much effort, they really make themed events worthwhile. Kx
