Lauren Carney Paperdoll Clothesline

laurenc1

laurenc2

I’m very excited to have finally found a moment to put up the coolest thing I bought from the Brisbane Finders Keepers, which was this AMAZING Paperdoll Clothesline set by Lauren Carney. She was so lovely and super excited to have a stall at the Brissy FK market. These cute little paperdolls are all hand cut & assembled and each girly has a different garment made from an interesting printed paper. The set comes with tiny pegs and string to hang it straight up on your wall! They really are pretty amazing and at $25 they are an absolute steal! You can visit her Etsy store here, where you’ll find a great selection of cute things. Kx

Inside A Black Apple

I was very excited to see The Black Apple’s Emily Martin has put out a new book on paper dolls! Available for pre-order here which I will be doing very shortly. I’ve been a fan of The Black Apple since my first etsy encounter where I purchased numerous prints in one hit and I still have them hanging on my walls today! One thing that’s really cool is seeing how much her style and technique has really developed over the years, along with her growing fame (she has even appeared on Martha Stewart)!

book

Anyway I must say the recent work she has done for her “Lost on the Midway” exhibition has been really AMAZING. Here are a few of the pieces which really made me “Aww”.

Lost on the Midway

I think I love this group photo the best, she worked on several smaller pieces for the exhibition like the super cute siamese dolls, ink drawings and pencil sketches. Sigh. So much pretty! Check out Emily’s blog “Inside a Black Apple” for more inspirational goodness. Kx

Rob Ryan Open Studio

A very good friend of ours who is living in London went along to the Rob Ryan open studio a few weekends and just sent me some photos (cause she knows I’m a big fan :) Just look at all the lovely tiles so many to collect!! And the live paper cutting!! Thought the photos were just too good not to share, so enjoy! Lx

A very good friend of ours Mechelle B is having her first solo exhibition at Kinokuniya Gallery and the opening is this Saturday at 2pm!!

Entitled  “Hairy Tales”- it is a collection of portraits including watercolour paintings, drawings, zines, hand-painted vintage crockery and laser etched brooches. All works are for sale. With a bit of luck there will also be cake and there is sure to be lots of fun!

We have even collaborated with Mechelle on some wooden laser cut brooches (above) that are SO SO cute.

If you can’t make it on Saturday the exhibition continues until 27th April.

Facebook invite is here!

See you there!!

6 things I wish I could own right now

Money may not buy happiness, but if I had the funds for these pretties, I can guarantee I’d be rather ecstatic.

birdplate

This bird plate is one of the loveliest things I’ve seen in a long time. And its a one off piece! From etsy, here.
boots

Honestly, I think the saying “needing something like a hole in the head” was created for me and pairs of boots, but you know, if the funds afforded them, these are awesome. and custom made!

phonebrooch

This super cute, super girly (peach and black! aww!) telephone brooch…

scottato

And this rainbow diary cover, by Scottato, one of my favourite small designers. (I have a collection of her zip purses!) Take time to check out her etsy store she does the most amazing things with leather!

paperdoll

And every single paperdoll in this etsy shop, but especially this AMAZING blue eyed bow peep-ish looking girl.

louandleeAnd finally, all the beautiful headbands by Lou and Lee in this shop. But this nautical themed one in particular caught my eye. Kx

Living Liverpool Exhibition

Our very talented friend Anney took part in this exhibition that Lynds and I went down to on friday night. “Living Liverpool” was a collection of artworks done by locals to celebrate 200 years of establishment in the area. Anney and I have been friends for a few years now, after suffering together while working at Spotlight. Anney, as you can see is so very clever and every new work of hers I see inspires me!

These are the three works she had on show on the night, inspired by the Princess and the Pea, Wizard of Oz and Cinderella. I absolutely LOVE them, but the princess is my favourite! Other works like this:

guts

And this were also on show by other artists. I’m not too sure on the meaning, but the stocking stuffer people scare me! Someone told me the man and the meat represent how Liverpool Hospital feels like a meat market and how they treat you like an animal. Mmm inspiring or what! You can see why I think Anney’s were the best and most positive pieces there!

anneymech

This is Anney (left) and her sister Mechelle, who is also extremely talented and has a show coming up at Kinokuniya sometime soon! They dressed in these amazing floral 80’s prom dresses on the night and had so many people come up and comment on their outfits.

mechelle1

And Mechelle had this amazing petticoat underneath her dress! I have a bit of a soft spot for petticoats too, so this made my night! All in all the artworks were really interesting and it’s pretty clear that no matter what area you live in, there are always so many talented people around you. Kx

10 things I hate about you, Money.

Here are ten things I’m dreaming of owning if my funds permitted me to do so.

deery

Obviously, a baby deer is out of the question, but this print, is not.

isabella

And neither is this one. Bunnies and swans, for goodness sake, what more could a girl ask for.

paws

lamby

I’ve blogged about the amazing Mon Petit Fantome before, and these two prints in his etsy store make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

deery2

This vintage deer. Like a velveteen rabbit only cuter.

bewitched

This original Caitlin Shearer painting. Love it.

greenrabbit

This funny little felted rabbit.

cakeland

This print is by Justin Richel and makes me want to bake.

bunnytin

As does this bunny tin!

pinwheels

And these little paper pinwheels you can buy from this super cool baking supply etsy store.

birdbelt

And finally this Marc Jacobs Birdy belt. Oh how I love you.

Ok, technically I think that’s eleven, but I couldn’t decide :) Kx

Kino Bake Fair

lyndsnut

On Saturday we went down to Kinokuniya for their Bake Fair. My super talented friends Anney and Mechelle had a stall and had made some amazing looking and tasting treats. Amongst the best were pistachio and rosewater cupcakes, hand sewn aprons, donut toys and our personal favourites, hand drawn crockery. We couldn’t resist the red and white teacups, which are all designed and drawn by Mechelle on vintage crockery. Mine has taken pride of place on my shelf, because its way too pretty to use. Kx

Sexy Librarian

Sexy Librarian might sound like every boys fantasy, but actually it is the name of my lovely and talented friend Anney’s exhibition which was held at Kinokuniya last thursday night. There was cute paintings and cupcakes all around. I loved the painting of the iced vovos best!

The Best Thing That Happened Today

Slow Loris Drawing

Kell turned up at my place and she had drawn these AMAZING little Slow Loris drawings (she may have noticed my recent obsession with these super cute creatures?). We may have to make him into a brooch I think. I still want one as a pet, shame we can’t have cool animals like this for pets in Australia!

We have also discovered another animal that is much better than a possum, it’s called a Tarsier, I want one of these too! This is a great video, I love the way he chews – too cute!
