Recent Vintage

31 July 2012

As mentioned in a previous post, I was given the honour of raiding a friends nans’ wardrobe a few weeks back. I picked out a vast collection of beautiful vintage cotton shirts in an array of colours and prints, all in hardly worn condition and primarily Australian made local labels.

Of course what I was most excited about were the DRESSES. This lady was quite the collector. I came home with a great selection of house coats, summer frocks and two piece wrap skirt and top sets, as well as an adorable peter pan collar black velvet dress! (VERY Wednesday Addams).

By far my favourite was this little gem. Emerald Green, antique pink and yellow floral & a spectacular double collar made from amazingly soft cotton sateen. I can’t wait to have somewhere to wear it!

And then the other day I popped into my favouite vintage shop and snapped up this adorable vintage Dirndl style dress made from pink floral with a smocked waist, brass buttons and white ric rac trimming! And you know how I feel about ric rac!

And finally on saturday I dragged myself out of bed to go to a little vintage pop-up shop happening locally and bagged a few gems including a little wool jacket, lurex cardy and two great vintage skirts. Luck was on my side this day, despite waiting almost 15 minutes for a coffee beforehand!

Hoping you’ve all bagged a bargain or two lately. Kx

Good Things Lately…

23 July 2012

Seeing so many Made By White brooches, earrings and necklaces go to new homes during the sale. We hope you all are currently enjoying your new goodies! Thanks anyone who ordered and for your continued support.

I got to raid a friends nannas’ wardrobe a few weeks ago. Always been a dream of mine, obviously, and this newly acquired collection of vintage shirts is still making me smile, along with the dresses, hats, belts and other bits and pieces I gave a new home to.

Baking. Always nice to spend time with the oven.

And another winter indulgence…poaching pears.

Juno sitting on the back doorstep deciding whether to go out or stay in.

Wilfreds’ ridiculous face.

Porridge making on saturday mornings.

Having a backyard fire pit with some of our favourite people and making S’mores! Our version was Ritz biscuit, toasted marshmallow and melted chocolate (we later moved onto strawberry and banana combos when the sugar got a little too intense!). Delicious and indulgent and absolutely sickening after about 5 or so.

And finally something that always makes me beyond happy and full of new hope, a decent op-shop haul! Included was 3 pairs of boots, a pair of vintage sandals, a multicolour granny rug, fruit print skirt, brown leather belt, floral 70′s dress with velvet bow, a pink coat and two beautiful old plates, all for under $50. YES! Kx

Ten Daily Outfits

20 July 2012

I’ve been sharing my daily outfits over on instagram (because lets face it, its easier to snap a half decent phone pic these days than it is to set up a camera) and thought I’d share a bunch of my favourites here too. Winter is my favourite season. SO many layers (coats, cardies, stockings, knitwear!) and accessories (scarves, socks, belts, brooches!) needed. YAY!

If you want to follow along on instagram you can find me under “thestorybookrabbit”. Hope you like them! Kx

Washi Tape Housing

16 July 2012

I found the perfect use for my shadow box house which used to keep my little ceramic animals which are currently packed away until we move somewhere a little bit permanent. It was the perfect size to stack all the wash I brought back from Japan and also means I can see all the colours and patterns I have easily. Kx

Storybook Rabbit Update

11 July 2012

I’ve just done a big restock of my etsy store and listed LOTS of brooches and new plates.

I made cute little wash tape bunting from the collection I bought in Japan (so many great colours, went a little crazy in the Uniqlo MT tape display) and used it as a little backdrop for my brooch photos.

There’s a big selection of characters and pretty coloured wood frames to choose from!

There a pair of cute plates with my favourite watercolour animals.

And the ever popular flower deer, as well as many others.

Hope everyone has a lovely week! Kx

Mums Who Knit

5 July 2012

We’re lucky enough to have inherited a fair bit of general craftiness from the amazing lady we call “Mum”. Here is what she has been up to in this wintery weather. KNITTING!

I saw mum last week and she showed up with this BEAUTIFUL hexagon blanket I’d mentioned to her months ago after finding the crochet pattern on etsy. Little did I know she was working on it the whole time since and now that its finally done we can enjoy its overwhelming prettiness and warmth on our couch.

You might remember the deer jumper mum knitted me last winter, well this time round I asked for a kitty jumper and let me just say I’m IN LOVE. The original kittens were based on the very clever Tiny Owl Knits‘ kitten mittens, which mum also knitted for me. Needless to say its become my new favourite, especially when this weather has been SO cold and the woollen kitties are SO warm.

and these amazing knee high socks are also perfect for this crazy cold we’ve had the last few days. The best thing is Mum knows exactly the colours that I love and usually what she comes up with is a million time better than I ever imagine it could be!

And seeing as I spent a lot of time with Blythes last week, she’s been knitting for them too! These little elephant jumpers are THE CUTEST, no?

and she had also made a little green beanie to match Olive’s new dress! We’re both so spoilt! Kx

Blythe Fest 2012

3 July 2012

A few weekends ago I had the pleasure of attending the annual Blythe Fest! This year held in Sydney (but not always held here) with over 70 people attending. I was so excited to see so many Blythe Dolls in one place!

So I made my Blythe, Olive, a new outfit for the occasion. Including a little ric rac pinafore, polkadot tee and little leather satchel, paired with the boots and liberty floral socks I bought her in Japan, & mums hand knitted Blythe-sized chain scarf we were well and truly ready to go!

The theme for the occasion was “candy land” which meant, you guessed it, a candy bar! Packed full of sugary goodness to keep all the excited Blythe fan girls (and boys) going throughout the event.

This cake pop pushed both myself and the very lovely Kirbee Lawler (the lady responsible for me being at the event) over the edge. So much sugar, so much chocolate.

And these are three of Kirbees’ adorable little Blythes! The far right blonde is a vintage Kenner circa 1970′s, given to Kirbee straight from a kiddies’ toy box!!

And this is a typical table setting for these Blythe events, everyones dollies being displayed alongside their neighbours!

And here are two amazing Blythe sisters, the one on the left being a vintage Kenner Blythe also. Sophia was the owner of a very impressive collection of very amazing dolls with wardrobes to match them!

And these blue…

and green haired beauties are some of the most impressive colours seen on the day.

And I loved these three in their adorable little outfits, especially the one in the middle with the deer antlered flower crown!

And here is the winners table of the days “best dressed” competitions.

And the SUPER adorable Midi Blythe I’ve since been coveting. 3/4 the size of a normal Blythe, 3 million times cuter!

And these two were by far my favourites of the day! Customised and newly returned to their owner Sophia on the very day of the meet! That pink hair makes me gooey.

And last but not least, some cute outfits I picked up for Olive on the day, as it wouldn’t be a Blythe meet without a chance to purchase an outfit or two! Included in my haul (most pieces being under $10 each!) pink corduroy pea coat, green check peter pan collar dress and a little peach coloured embroidered dress, not unlike a few of my own!

But by far my favourite purchase was this adorable vintage 1970′s Kenner Blythe dress which I bought off one of the very lovely ladies I met on the day, who owned the actual doll that came with the dress!

If there is one thing that can be learnt from going and actually experiencing a Blythe meet, its that tickets should come complete with a warning about how much you will want another Blythe doll afterwards! Kx
