Edgars Mission Visit

30 April 2012

It’s no secret Lynds and I are huge animal people, we’ve dedicated our entire brand to them really, so it was quite a treat for us to visit the very lovely, very special, Edgars Mission while we were in Melbourne last week with our boys and our good friends Kathryn and Andrea Smith.

Pam and Kyle with their latest signage, with illustrations by Andrea and designed by Lynds.

Edgars’ Mission is an animal sanctuary who house and look after many, many farm animals who’ve been rescued, adopted or saved from the meat industry or just generally cruel situations. Lyndsay and Ben recently created a brand new website for Edgars Mission, (with illustrations by Andrea) which is amazing, cute and as beautiful to visit as the farm itself! But enough about that, onto the super cute animals we had the pleasure of meeting!

This is shirley (and Andrea) She was HUGE and LOVED her apples. You can sponsor her here along with lots of other cute animals who live on the farm!

There were also so many lovely sheep at Edgars’, they all came running over when they heard the weetbix box!

And this was the newest little member, Melvin, you can read his little story here and see how he came to live at Edgars’ Mission.

We also met lots of VERY cute goats! Each with their own personalities and funny names. This one took quite a liking to my belt!

And this one seemed VERY fond of Trev! Until we were told her name is Kelly, and then it all made sense.

One of our favourite animals at the farm (and in general) is the PIGS! Hamish is Lynds and Ben’s buddy animal and we got to meet him too, but this pig had the hairiest ears I’ve veer seen! I think if he suddenly decided to speak he’d have a very strong scottish accent.

And this lovely lady learned to sit all by herself (for weetbix, obviously) They all had so much character!

And this is Hope, she was very big and LOVED her apples (and rolling in the red mud apparently!). You can sponsor her too!

And this is Hip Hop! She did all sorts of tricks like sitting, fetching, dropping and laying down (all for weetbix!). She was so beautiful and obviously a bit of a favourite with Kyle who taught her all she knows.

But I think my favourite piggy was Mrs Peaches! She weighs an amazing 320kgs and was one of the stars of Charlottes’ Web!

And this is my buddy animal BAMBI! Isn’t he beautiful! He was rescued after the black friday bush fires and even has a new girlfriend called Gemima!

And here she is giving Trev a little kiss!

But by far my favourite animals were the bunnies. There were lots of beautiful domestic bunnies in all sizes living in a big pen together, these two were giving each other a lick-bath!

And these new little bunnies were recent additions, Brenda and Jacqui, saved from a rabbit meat factory which was closing down! They were SO friendly and adorable (except for when one bit Andrea, oops!). I don’t know how anyone could eat them.

And this is Mr Peaches! The biggest bunny I’ve ever cuddled. He was HEAVY and furry and made Juno look like a dwarf. Needless to say, I WANT ONE!

And there are also beautiful farm dogs living at Edgars’, This is Ruby and Rory! They took the tour with us and begged for pats at every place we stopped. They took a liking to Trev immediately, they must have sensed the dog-lover in him.

Oh and I think she also sensed it in Kat too, who gave her a whole lotta love on the day.

Needless to say it was such a nice way to spend a few hours on a monday, sometimes I think animals can be better than people! Make sure you visit Edgars Mission in person if you can or check out the new website! You can also like their page on Facebook to be kept up to date with all the cute animals, going-on and appearances they make all over the place!

Melbourne Highlights

29 April 2012

A few highlights from our time in Melbourne last week!

Going from a ridiculously oversized apartment first night stay at Southbank…

To the cutest accommodation you could ever find. The Loft was super cute and pint-sized. Complete with everyones’ dream fridge, the pink Smeg!

We ate several delicious breakfasts (my fave) at many great cafes! I ate the best fruit toast ever at Gas Eatery and Supplies in South Melbourne, a favourite from our last trip.

We ate this delicious Bircher Museli from Proud Mary, a super sweet cafe recommended to us by a local barista in Sydney. We also had delicious coffees and take away goodies for the trip home.

This amazing walnut and poached pear French Toast was from Seven Seeds in Carlton. The food here was delicious and the cafe had a great interior. Possibly one of the best french toasts I’ve eaten!

And these raspberry and lemon curd french crepes were from Madame Sou Sous, which was conveniently right near where we were staying in Fitzroy. Madame Sou Sous has some great artwork inside, including some prints by Christina Gordon aka Jam Fancy, who you might remember from our recent collaboration range!

Probably my favourite shop we visited was Dagmar Rousset on Gertrude St. Complete SOCK HEAVEN! I made swift purchase of a pair of japanese polkadots (third in on the right hand side) and left before my money slipped eagerly from my hands any quicker than it already had.

I also couldn’t resist taking a photo of all the beautiful velvet jackets at Retrostar clothing. It’s in one of my favourite arcades along with Lenko & Alice Euphemia.

Melbourne Finders Keepers Market

27 April 2012

We had a great time last weekend at the Melbourne Finders Keepers Market, which was held in the beautiful Royal Exhibition Building.

We had a big colourful stall full of goodies by Made By White, Candy Stripe Cloud and The Storybook Rabbit.

We had lots of our new jewellery (the bunny riding a frenchie brooch was the stand out favourite!), stud earrings, necklaces and collaboration ranges.

Candy Stripe Cloud’s beautiful handmade shadow box shelves were popular too!

And lots of Storybook Rabbit plates, brooches and other goodies went to new homes too! We had such a fun time at the markets, thanks everyone who came down and said ‘hi’ or purchased some of our handmade wares! Kx & Lx
