Baby, it’s cold out there…

29 July 2011

So here is some great news for all you envious readers out there. I know I’m always raving about mums knitting skills and now there are some cute little bits and pieces available for purchase over at The Storybook Rabbit etsy store!

These bow headbands are one of the best things for this wintery weather. Surprisingly they keep your head really warm and they are all handmade by our mum! Super stretchy and available in 12 real wool colours (until sold)! We had these at our last Finders Keepers market stall and they were a complete sell out, so get in quick. As an added bonus they have free shipping within Australia!

And if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, what about a super cosy chain scarf? These babies are SO incredibly good in winter. Despite the “holey” design they are REALLY warm and add a splash of colour to anything you might wear, even if you’re rugged up in a huge coat. There are only 4 available, so get in quick, there’s the pastel daydream (my personal favourite), blue tones, rainbow bright and autumn colours.

These scarves are really very special and they are all handmade with love and care. All scarves are knitted in individual coloured links and then felted, to give them a very sturdy and unique smoothed look, like real chain links. Each one is a complete one-off piece and will never be remade exactly the same, which is why we always find it so hard to sell them! We do want to keep them all, but we also know it’s good to share the love (and knitting skills!). You can check out all the knitted goodness here. Enjoy! Kx

New Me and Oli Online Shop!

28 July 2011

Here’s something exciting and fun that might make your day as much as it did mine. Our lovely friend Lalita Lu (aka Me and Oli) has just launched an amazing new website. You might know Lalita’s work from around the place, we had an amazing range of dresses by her at Made590 last summer, she has worked on illustrations for designers such as Peter Alexander, Mambo and Romance Was Born and she also had a stall at The Finders Keepers Markets a few years back with her amazing clothing range. Basically she is an extremely talented (and super lovely) designer and illustrator based in Sydney who has a soft spot for Australian wildlife, line-work animals and pretty, delicate illustration. How can we not love that?

And her new website represents all of this. It’s completely illustrated by Lalita who designed it with her partner Brett and it is a pretty great little online concept shop. Basically you choose a print, garment type and shape and your dress or top is CUSTOM MADE for you within 3-5 weeks, depending on where in the world you order from. Pretty cool eh? You can even lengthen or shorten your dress at checkout! Such attention to detail must not go unnoticed, because it’s the little things in life that make it that much nicer.

There is a library of prints and shapes to choose from, each with photos and examples to give you a really good idea of how it will look on the body and to show scale of each print. SO easy and soooo tempting. I want them all! (But I think the dress on the fox there is the one I will go for!)

Also very tempted by the owl print though. And a little bit in love with this deery friend below. But if deers are not your thing you can change the character heads and feet on the website home page! TOO CUTE!

You can read lalitas blog here and get ordering on her site HERE. Just think how special it will feel putting on your very own custom made (and VERY well priced) piece of Me and Oli loveliness for the very first time…sigggghhhhhhhh. Kx

Electric blue stockings (target – last season)

Rust Cape Jacket (found in an op-shop but its by Veronica Maine)

Have I Ever Mentioned…

26 July 2011

That Juno really enjoys eating bananas.

And If you don’t feel like sharing, (because really, bananas are like gold right now)…she’ll also eat the skins.

I’m a little obsessed with rabbit mouths. They are the cutest part of a bunny by far! If you’ve never seen this video, you should watch it and then you’ll understand. Happy Tuesday. Kx

Her range is full of quirky characters and we just love every piece. There is an amazing Gumball Monster necklace for all of you who are less brooch inclined than others, as well as some other stand out pin-on pieces! Christy is queen of the macabre and unusual, which is why we love her designs! You can see lots more of Christy’s work here and admire her other pretty wares in her etsy shop! Hope you love the new bits as much as we do and as always these pieces are limited edition, so be quick if you love them. Kx

Good Things This Week

19 July 2011

Presents from Lyndsay’s trip to Japan. Yessss!

My new permanently set up attic sewing area. Anyone who sews will know how important it is to always have the machine out, or you’ll never do those alterations…sew that cushion…or make those….

..Bow ties! I whipped these up last week out of some fabrics and trims I got at spotlight, as well as the red one I wore in the last post.

Our new rug! After much searching…I’ve finally found one that will do until we can afford the rug of our dreams.

Little thankyou cards for lovely people.

I’ve not given up on the real pug dream just yet, but for now I have a new (super quiet & mess free) pug friend (and cabybara!) watching over my desk, who came all the way from Japan to hang out with me.

And finally, I got a little thrill upon finding these tiny little footprints in our kitchen tiles. Could they be of the bunny variety? Probably more likely a dog, but still, it’s fun to think someone put them here on purpose and made it a truly animal friendly home. Kx

What I Wore

19 July 2011

Vintage floral housecoat turned dress (with a little alteration by me)

Embroidered floral cardy by Dangerfield

Vintage Horse belt (which I got from Katoomba Cat Protection Society op Shop over the weekend)

Clip on fringed bow (made by me last week)

and red leather flats by Golden Ponies on etsy. (I swapped a plate for the shoes and I reckon that was a pretty good deal! I now own about 3 or 4 pairs :)

I wore this outfit to see Harry Potter 7.2 on sunday, which was spectactular and everything I dreamed it would be and I am quite saddened it’s all over. Did anyone else see it? Kx

A Day In The Mountains

18 July 2011

We spent a day driving to the blue mountains on saturday. We didn’t actually go to the mountains themselves…more just every op-shop and antique place we could find along the way, as well as stopping at Schwarzes Bakery in Wentworth Falls. If you haven’t been here, you should definitely make the trip one day. It’s about the closest thing you’ll ever get to eating REAL German bread and pastries without actually going, so as you could imagine it brings back some very fond memories of our trip (and Trev’s many other trips) to Berlin when we go.

Amongst other things we ate pretzels…

Hazelnut filled glazed pastry things…

And we also may have indulged in a little black forest cake. Trev tells me the Schwarzes themselves are actually from the Black Forest, so really, how could we not! And for the record, it really is as good as it looks!

I was also tempted by many things at The Victorian Theatre Antique Centre in blackheath, like this super cute Cardinal Cookie Jar.

This mama duck cookie jar…

And I was not so tempted by the $245 price tag on this swan planter! We gave mum one just like it last year for her birthday, which I’m glad is now in the family, especially if people really are paying this much for them! We most certainly didn’t!

I picked up a few great things on the trip. Apart from lots of plates I also scored some scarves (I especially love the cream floral one, which is original vintage from Russia, the crazy lady who sold it to me said so).

Some pretty hankies and doilies.

And these super cute cropped bat wing cardies! Three colours in the same size and design. Obviously straight from the same old ladies’ wardrobe.

It was a great little trip to do in one day, especially when you do it with someone who will drive all the way back around if you happen to miss an op-shop on the very edges of town as you’re leaving :) What a guy! Kx

Worn this week

15 July 2011

Red Mexican embroidered dress (vintage), elastic and leather belt (vintage), waffle knit grey cardy (another find from op-shopping last week) vintage czech glass flower brooch (etsy), acid green knit highs (sportsgirl) and ever faithful vintage boots.

It’s nearly the weekend, so I hope you have a lovely one. Kx
