Market Finds

30 September 2010

platesBLOG

I had some great finds last weekend when we went to Roselle and Kirribili markets, some really amazing art-deco type plates and lots of beautiful english china with interesting scalloped edges, which I REALLY love. Lately I’ve also come across a few really amazing green plates I’ve squirreled away for myself to eventually be united together on a wall one day, which is where the one with the cottage in this photo will be going. Also note the beautiful hexagon quilt mum kindly dragged out of her stash for me to use in my photos! Kx

Dear, oh deery me!

Some more recently acquired vintage. I’m sure the fact I have pretty much been living on etsy for the last month has contributed to the fact I have so many new (old) things. The giant flocked deers I just couldn’t resist though, they are SO creepy but so great. And another bunny, just for good measure :) Kx

Recent Vintage -Bunnies!

bunnies2Yes, ok, I’m a little obsessed. But a few more couldn’t hurt! Lynds bought me this amazing bunny teapot at an op shop last week and the other little critters showed up in the mail. I found them in this great etsy shop The Hares Nest, where pretty much all she sells is rabbits! You could imagine my delight when I found all these great new friends. Kx

Happiness Is- New Plates!

There are some new plates up in my etsy shop this week. I felt a bit mean not putting any of the plates I’ve been working on up before now, so some of my recently made friends are ready to find a home. I’ve been working on some new ones with text on them, just sweet nothings and a little bit of love (I guess I’m feeling sentimental lately), so I hope you like them! Kx

Mess and Order

22 September 2010

This photo just about sums up my place right now. A complete mess of vintage on insufficient benchspace, but it’s also a lot of fun. Due to the complete lack of boy in my life right now, I have absolutely no motivation to organise things in anything more than piles. Lets be honest, I’m not good at this at the best of times, but without anyone here to tell me how much crap I have laying around, there is no hope in hell. Anyway I thought it would be fun to share this with you! Please also note (due to my lack of “recently found” blogs at the moment), the amazing bear and bee teapot and bluebird cookie jar I got last week that I’ve yet to find a real place for!)

platesbenchOf course the main reason for all the chaos is us getting ready for Melbourne Finders Keepers next month (Yes everyone, I’m bringing a whole bunch of plates that can’t wait to find new homes) and another cute project we are very happy to be part of, The Arcade Project at Gaffa Gallery. We’re having a small space in the gallery for the next month or so (selling plates, brooches, framed tiles and necklaces), along with lots of other cute designers.

Here’s a sneak peak at our space! You can see the official lineup for this round of designers here and info about the launch evening on the 30th September too. storybookwallWe also really loved these prints by the super talented Nikki Catalano who is also having a space in the gallery.

And despite my lack of photoraphic evidence, you should also keep an eye out for our friend Andrea Smith‘s AMAZING collages, because they are rather special to say the least! Kx

Little One

21 September 2010

On the weekend we visited our lovely friend Mechelle’s opening for her exhibition “Little One” to see her new risographs that are based on cute sketches of her childhood memories. The exhibition is at Sweets Workshop in Summer Hill, which is a super cute little gallery that’s just been opened. You should definately check it out if you’ve never been! There is also a cute little interview and profile on the Finders Keepers Blog here.

All attendees got a cute paper hat made from “riso boo-boos”.

And a delicious vegan cupcake (or two), baked by Mechelle and her amazingly talented sister Anney.

Mechelle and Anney are also the queens of zines! and stock their goodies at Sweets Workshop. I especially love Mechelle’s hillarious zines about public transport and Anney’s beautiful cornycopia drawings. So much talent here! Kx

Macaron Heaven

21 September 2010

Yesterday we made a trip to Adriano Zumbo’s amazing macaron factory/cafe/patissier in Roselle. If you are nowhere near either of his cafes (there is also one in Balmain) you can drool over his amazing flavours and creations here or you could just harden up and take a drive! These macarons are WORTH IT!!!

sumbosThis is what they looked like before. Ooo pretty!

And after…when we felt really sick.

Some more than others. haha!

The best flavour by far was the salted caramel and peanut, but I was also quite partial to the oatmeal, honey and ylang ylang. Kx

Introducing Candy Stripe Cloud!

14 September 2010

Well it’s been up for about a week now and this is the first opportunity I’ve had to do a little post about my new site Candy Stripe Cloud! It’s the result of 6 months of designing, building, researching lovely products and finally launching of a site filled with all my favourite things (well not all but lots and lots)!

My super smart and wonderful partner Ben and I have been hard at work day and night amongst everything else we do trying to get this site up and running. We are super happy with the result and I don’t want to part with the things we are selling, it’s just all SO cute and fun. Our house is currently filled with Kewpie Dolls, Miniatures and wonderful Stationery, not to mention all the things I’ve been making myself like laser cut cards and new jewellery too! We also built the website ourselves (of course) and did all the photography, phew!

You can join us on Facebook too! Hope you see something you like there!

And don’t worry Made by White will continue as always – Kell and I just like having lots of things to do, as you can see I’m sure :)

Lyndsay xx

New Bits and Pieces

10 September 2010

There are some new additions to The Storybook Rabbit this week. I’m trying out some pencil holder glasses, trinket boxes and also some new characters on beautiful vintage plates (some of my favourites, ever). You can check them all out here. And you can also become a fan of  them on Facebook (yay!) here. There will be lots of new things coming in the next few weeks, as Lynds and I gear up for Melbourne Finders Keepers and also as I try to entertain myself while my lovely man is off galavanting around Germany (Boo!)
