Baked Goodness

30 July 2010

pastries

Schwartz Bakery was the highlight of our trip to the Blue Mountains last weekend and the main reason my boy was so willing to come, even when I explained I would be dragged him through antique centres and op shops all day. They do the most amazing traditional German pretzels and sour cherry crumble. The chocolate pretzel on the left was actually pretty tasteless considering how amazing it looked! But if you’re ever in the area you should really check it out, especially because the op shops in the Blue Mountains are completely scoured and the antiques shops didn’t even have one Bambi between them. Thank god for etsy! Kx

It’s moments like this…

21 July 2010

where working in a shop like made590 really comes in handy. This bunny lamp is quite possibly the best product I’ve ever purchased from made and I think i’m in love. The greatest thing is, if bunnies are not your thing there is also a squirrel, toadstool or duck to choose from. You can see them here. They’re pretty amazing really, and what more could you want than the warm glow of a bunny to keep you company (for the record, a real one makes a great substitute). Kx

New Illustrated Plates

20 July 2010

I’ve got a whole bunch of new illustrated vintage plates up in my etsy store The Storybook Rabbit. I’ve been playing around with transfer decals and these plates are my favourites so far, I’ve even kept a few for my wall. Kx

Colour Me Happy

19 July 2010

Last week I was lucky enough to take part in a week long watercolour course with the lovely John Wells at SCA. His classes were very relaxed and despite the fact I was painting vintage bambis and pet bunnies (this was something everyone was very curious about, and for the record: No, I don’t have any kids, I JUST LIKE ANIMALS!) when all the other ladies were painting far- away holiday destinations and daisy fields, he did a great job feigning an interest in my pastel coloured creations. I have dabbled in painting before but doing something like this is a great way to learn a proper technique and pick up little tips and tricks from the people around you. Here is a few of my completed projects from last week. Kx

A huge thankyou to Petina at I like you for her lovely words about my work and the interview she posted on her blog last week. You can read it and see more pictures of my house and collections here. Incase you’ve never been to I like You in Melbourne, you should! The shop is filled with all sorts of great things and Petina has been a big Made By White supporter since the very beginning. And also a huge goodluck and bon voyage to Petina, who’s off to be inspired in New York and other exotic destinations, something most of us only dream about and are rarely brave enough to do! Click the link and read all about it here. Kx

Winterland Festival Opening Night

8 July 2010

Last Friday was the opening night of the Winterland Festival and we were there with all our Made by White products, it was an invite only event – not sure what you had to do to get an invite but I’m pretty sure all the people were there for the free alcohol (and risotto and soup) It was lots of fun though so we thought we would share some photos they have done a great job decorating!!

We will be having a stall at the Winterland Markets organised by the Finders Keepers this Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday (day and night) so please come say hi !

We will be right next to our good friends Anney and Mechelle who make the most amazing Zines, hand painted plates, jewellery, and artworks – they also have a great collection of vintage clothing!

And the Find Me Keep Me ladies will be there too with all their lovely products!

And just wanted to add this great stage decoration in – and this crazy singer who was wearing the skimpiest outfit while everyone else was wearing 5-6 layers of clothing! She had to be cold especially with the ice rink only 20 meters away!

Lauren Carney Paperdoll Clothesline

5 July 2010

I’m very excited to have finally found a moment to put up the coolest thing I bought from the Brisbane Finders Keepers, which was this AMAZING Paperdoll Clothesline set by Lauren Carney. She was so lovely and super excited to have a stall at the Brissy FK market. These cute little paperdolls are all hand cut & assembled and each girly has a different garment made from an interesting printed paper. The set comes with tiny pegs and string to hang it straight up on your wall! They really are pretty amazing and at $25 they are an absolute steal! You can visit her Etsy store here, where you’ll find a great selection of cute things. Kx

Fox and Owl

2 July 2010

bunnydoll

bunnybrooch1Ok, possibly some of the cutest things I’ve ever seen in my search for all things bunny-related. Fox and Owl doesn’t appear to actually have many foxes or owls, but these two bunnies sure caught my eye! Check out their etsy shop for a small selection of super cute things.

Brisbane and The Finders Keepers

1 July 2010

Last weekend was the 2nd Brisbane Finders Keepers Market, which we were lucky enough to be part of. Brisbane is a pretty interesting place, very different to Sydney and the weather is much nicer than it is here at the moment! Here is us (minus Trev taking the photo) on the plane!

And luckily Ben bought along his new ipad to entertain us (and the surrounding passengers) on the trip down there.

This was a cool deer man sculpture on the street which made me laugh, because he looks like he’s waiting to cross the road!

DEERMAN

The vintage shops and antique centres were probably my favourite thing we saw in Brisbane. They were packed with really cool stuff I could have easily filled my suitcase with.

Unfortunately this carousel pig wouldn’t fit, because he was amazingly scary and beautiful. There was also lots of great dresses and accessories, but nothing so amazing I needed to buy it.

These miniature bunnies on the other hand, I couldn’t possibly leave without buying to add to my collection.

And this was my find of the trip, an amazing vintage tea cup and saucer with deer, giraffe and a squirrel for only $2 from Vinnies!

This was a great little cafe we found after it was featured in Frankie Mag. They did great coffee and amazing raisin toast and caramel nut muffins!
